Moveable Type to Drupal 5 migration
I recently set up a Drupal website for my neighood church. The father had a two year old Moveable Type blog with 86 entries and it took me the better part of a day to find a script to migrate the Moveable Type entries to Drupal 5, and the script I found did not have any instructions. If you're looking to do the same, here are some helps...
A couple of things first. The script will migrate everything, spam comments and all. Be sure to delete them from your Moveable Type blog before you start. Second, the script migrates from a Moveable Type installation to a Drupal installation on the same server; if you are moving to a different server, this might not work for you.
Step by Step Instructions
- Install Drupal 5, log in, create the first account
- Enable blog module in Drupal
- Add at least one Drupal vocabulary term for Blog content.
- Download mt-to-drupal50.cgi
- Open mt-to-drupal50.cgi in your favorite text editor
- Edit the database host, database name, database user name, and database password of your new Drupal 5 installation
- Upload edited mt-to-drupal50.cgi script to your Moveable Type CGI directory
- Run it - script will report progress or problems
That's it - short and sweet. You'll need to enable users that were transferred from Moveable Type.
